Menstruation Machine

スプツニ子!/Sputniko! - Menstruation Machine, Takashi's Take

A new video by Sputniko! (http://sputniko.com/blog) I'm a female artist and the machine is not only for men, it can also be worn by women in future when menstruation might become something obsolete - I'm not suggesting when or by whom this machine would be used - after much research with reproductive scientists (which I write in my website) I know that the psychologies which people associate with menstruation is too complex to make the reason for using such a device so simple - this music video is just one example of many possibilities.

on gaga: how being in the news is not news

[Warning: I will actually be criticising white people, lady gaga and several sacred cows of white culture]

Lady Gaga is all the rage.  She loves her some gay people and she even sings a song that takes up the banner of gay rights - "Born This Way".

Before anyone derails this into a conversation about music (it's not), my taste (I have none), why I don't like gaga (I think she's talented enough), any theory of me being anti-LGBTQI (wrong again, camel-breath) or my dislike for white people (I am white and harbor no such thoughts) - be clear: this is about the institutionalized cultural appropriation has been served up to and consumed by cis-gendered, heteronormative white audiences.

These are the lies we are told in order to maintain division and inequality by those who profit from our ignorance and cruelty toward each other.

I have had my reservations with a reliance on some short saying such as "born this way" to justify the identity of LGBTQI persons and I am not the only one.  I am not saying that people are not "born this way".  Some are and it is for each of us to decide for our own selves, whether this is true or not.

-  I do not recognize the authority of others to demand from me or anyone - some accounting of how I got to be the way I am.  I don't owe anyone such an explanation and I don't need to convince them that I am a valid person.  I think that there are no shortcuts.  For me to accept that LGBTQI persons owe some sort of explanation for whom we are is victim blaming.  No different to me than slut shaming.  It is placing the power in the hands of the bullies while releasing them from accountability.  I may have been born this way or I may have chosen to be this way - either way, I cede no power to anyone challenging my rights to be.

Via Buzzfeed: Tickle My What?!?

Alright, I have to admit, I have become compulsively obsessed with Buzzfeed.com. The website is hilarious and the content is even more so. I love it completely.

This new video titled, "Tickle my Vagina" is sure to go viral by the end of tonight. I can't describe it any better than the title does, so just listen and watch.

Is this every woman's new summer anthem? (Lyrics def. not safe for work, beware)

Lesbians, Labels, and Lyrics

It’s so hard these days to meet genuine people that are not into things for the mere popularity or money making deals. I think often when we do meet individuals that are sincere and speak or in this case sing their passion and love, that we automatically think they want something or they are a frauds. This world has become so doubtful and abusive towards each other that talent, true conviction and passion are overridden by insecurities.

Last night I had a conversation with a new and upcoming artist Ace Reign, and I just fell in love with this woman’s words and passion. First of all, I am a sucker for women who are intelligent and able to communicate their ideas, but to also do it in a manner that reaches and teaches people is amazing.

My aim has always been to empower and connect with the lesbian community, so when I asked the brilliant Rapper her thoughts of being seen as a Dominant/Aggressive Gay woman in the entertainment industry she actually caught me off guard by gently correcting me.

She brought about a very important point that labels are very constricting and that they often allow people to be discriminated upon or boxed in. She shared that she is herself and that she is proud of who she is, being a person of this world that loves what she creates and happens to also have relationships with women.

Slutty Celebrity Quote: Christina Aguilera

Cross-posted from Evil Slutopia.

Christina Aguilera recently did an interview with Company magazine to promote her new album, Bionic, and she had some interesting things to say about women and sexuality.

Christina Aguilera's risqué outfits, skin-tight costumes and provocative photo shoots aren't just for show. The singer says her sexy image is her way of getting out what she believes is an important message.BIONIC - DELUXE (Explicit)

"I feel sexuality to be very empowering," the singer, 29, tells U.K. magazine Company in its July issue. "I think men love to believe that they own our sexuality, so if a woman represents herself in a sexual way, people think, 'Oh it must be for a man.'"

"But men don't have the right to own our sexuality," she says. "If I want to be sexual, it's for my own appreciation and enjoyment! That's why I like to talk about the fact that sometimes I am attracted to women. I appreciate their femininity and beauty."

Before calling her a feminist, be warned, Aguilera says she doesn't like to get into labels. Instead, she's simply fighting "for women's rights in the sense that we shouldn't be ashamed of ourselves or our bodies." [People.com]

Most of the comments that I saw about this just focused on 'OMG she's not a feminist!' and ignored the rest. I did the opposite for a couple of reasons. I haven't read the full Company interview, but the line about feminism in the People summary is a little vague and doesn't really give us the context, so we don't know if she was explicitly asked if she was a feminist and said no or if she just made a more general statement about not liking labels. And even if she didn't want to drop the f-bomb in this interview for whatever reason, I don't think it means that the comments that she did make aren't worth discussing and taking seriously.

Actor Slash Model: Using Music & Film To Share Gender Identity

Actor Slash Model is the collaborative work of Simon Strikeback, an activist and educator, and Madsen Minax, an artist and filmmaker.

Through both music and film Actor Slash Model addresses issues of gender identity, gender performance and politics, a sex positive ideal, and the art making process.

Riot Acts: Flaunting Gender Deviance in Music Performance

As a filmmaking duo, Actor Slash Model is currently producing a documentary chronicling gender identity and performance as it surrounds musicianship.

The research for this project includes conducting in depth interviews, documenting the performances, rehearsals, and everyday interactions of trans and gender variant musicians across the United States and Canada.  Through this project they seek to reveal a particularly active and vibrant realm of community and artistic excellence.

RIOT ACTS is a transfabulous rockumentary representing the whole lives of transgender and gender variant musicians, through a first-hand perspective of the intersections between gender performance and stage performance.

This feature-length documentary highlights issues crucial to interviewees such as songwriting, voice presentation, presenting a body/bodies on stage, audiences, venues, the idea of the spectacle, media representation, performing gender and notions about “drag,” and the personal as political.

The film culminates with the notions that identities and bodies are undeniably political, and that the trans experience isn’t always one of tragedy, but one of creativity and joy. (actorslashmodel.com)
