Killing Us Softly Part One

“Most women who have had breast implants loose sensation in their breasts, so their breasts become an object of someone else’s pleasure rather than pleasurable in themselves.”

The last bit, in part one, the part I just quoted is incredibly important. Something switched in my brain when I heard that, and realized the implications. I instantly became a hell of a lot more accepting and loving of my own breasts. Flaws (imagined or real) and all. If they could hear, I would tell them how much I love them.

Fuck it, I’ll do it anyways. Breasts, I love you!

Killing Us Softly Part Two

Soon, you’ll [both] be taking up less space.

Here we go again with issues of visibility, they just keep coming up lately, or maybe I’m just primed to take more notice of them as of late. How messed up is that? The copy editor was/is very clever and obviously sold his/her/their soul to the devil. You should never ever listen to anyone who tells you that you don’t belong in this world.

Killing Us Softly Part Three

Ok, I find eroticised violence to be kind of hot in some instances. Maybe that means there’s something wrong with me, but then again maybe not. However, the “Bitch” sign with the boy figure pointing a gun a the girl figure was just plain fucked up.

Killing Us Softly Part Four

I want someone I can tell my deep dark secret to, what about you?

We all lose, and we lose very badly when we are told that one gender can have only one set of human qualities and one gender only the other.

Ok, this is a very simplistic analysis of gender and it doesn’t take into consideration other realities. I’m seriously wondering whether ads are responsible for the creation of gender in the first place, but regardless of whether you are male bodied or female bodied or male identified or female identified (I read somewhere there are 30 different possibilities), we all loose when we are told that when we inhabit a specific body we have to be a certain way. There is simply nothing to be gained in a world where the stuff that Jean is talking about here is valued and perpetuated no matter who you are or how you identify. We all need to add to this conversation to widen the scope, but Holy Hell this is a pretty great beginning. Also, I really like the sound of her voice. I find it very reassuring for some reason.

Trailer for Killing Me Softly 4 (the newest installment in this series)

Ok, so this trailer is a bit of a repetition of the other videos, but I added it in there, cause I like the Cindy Crawford quote, which isn’t in the other video. You know the one, where Cindy Crawford says: “I wish I looked like Cindy Crawford.” It’s clever and makes a good point, so there.
