What a bunch of fucking hypocrites. Excuse my language, I'm heated.

Allow me to explain.

The right wing of the political arena are hell bent on killing insurance reform. So are some left wingers, but for the most part, the Republican party is going hard on the "oppose Obama and collect dollars by the millions from lobbyists" tip.

While the Baucus bill is up for amendments and debate (the bill truly is a piece of shit, but that's for another blog post) several right wingers are pushing this asinine notion that maternity care isn't necessary and shouldn't be mandated.

Why?

Because Pregnancy is an elective condition.

Get the fuck out of here, it is?! You mean, I have a choice in this whole conception matter? Cool! Wait, no, it's only not necessary because men don't get pregnant? Oh. Only 14 states mandate maternity coverage therefore the new bill for reform should not cover maternity care? But I thought pregnancy is a choice, you just said... Oh I see, because it IS a choice we should be able to avoid pregnancy or pay more to get that maternity coverage benefit.

How the FUCK are we supposed to do that?!?!?!?!

Planned Parenthood gets less funding, you don't support contraception, abortion, my right to remove my uterus, my right to get married to whomever I please, my right to not get married if I so chose, and you debate about my body on national television on the fucking daily. All in the name of some bullshit social wedge to get more moronic voters to check your name on a ballot. Truthfully, you couldn't care less if we take the Pill or have the Big A... all that matters is your wallet, and whether it's lined with evangelical dollars. You get up there and you push for no coverage for women that actually WANT to have children. For women who get raped and find themselves pregnant but cant get an abortion because your bullshit ideologies sent the only women's health facility nearby offering such services into bankruptcy. For a woman who couldn't get birth control or someone that simply isn't ready for a child ..

The reality is, we don't have a choice, according to you sir a women's lot in life is to bear men children and you'll be damned if we even get support in that. Stop pretending this is about the life of some fetus or the protection of the heteronormative family; it's all about you sir and you'll see women suffer.

Fuck You.

Silvio FTL (... again)

His public life has become more dramatic than a soap opera. I have written about him before. About his wife, her public displays of disdain and their highly public disputes. I have written of the irony in their relationship and how he represents his country-people.

Everytime I read of Silvio Berlusconi I am utterly disgusted.

As a man in power, he represents every negative stereotype people such as myself fight diligently against, every.fucking.day. He only hires women, unqualified at that, if they are beautiful. He invites young women, his own daughter's age, to his home to entertain him and his friends. Women are bought and sold in his own home, parties he hosts. In a shameless display of hubris, and with supreme hypocrisy, he runs an extremely conservative agenda. He is BFF's with the Vatican(way to go Pope). In every way, he reveals himself to be a misogynistic pig, with seemingly no conscience. A sociopath.

The Prime Minister of Italy.

The prime minister was in an apparently upbeat mood today, telling the press conference that he enjoyed "the admiration of 68% per cent of Italians" – though he did not cite a source. The previous evening he again joked about his reputation at a meeting of young members of his party. When a female follower got up to ask a question, he interrupted her, saying: "I'm letting off the boys, but the girls are having to give their phone numbers."

In September, for the sake of all Italians, may the opposition win at last.

Unemployed straight guys attend transgender job fair

"Oh...now we're friends, eh?"

Maybe that's what the staff at a Transgender Job Fair were thinking when several seemingly cis-gendered people showed up looking for interviews. Is this an indictment of hard times or open minds? Perhaps, it merely indicates how arbitrary and flimsy the value judgments of other people's sex, gender, body - really are.

When the man who had always been a man walked in, well, that was a little strange. After all, this was registration for the fifth annual Transgender Job Fair at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center last week. The point was to help connect transgender folks — who have a difficult time finding work, even in a thriving economy — with savvy, sensitive employers.

And although there were no hard and fast rules about attendees being gender-bending, it seemed pretty ballsy for a man who had always been a man and who identified as one to show up at the fair. He was in jeans and a buzz cut, and exuded regular-guyness. "What do I have to do?" he asked volunteer Sherilyn Connelly.

Connelly was also there to find work, as she was recently laid off from her job as a Web producer at Cubik Media. She made her male-to-female transition in 1999, and is fabulously distinctive with her darkly lined eyes and orange-, purple-, and platinum-dreadlocked hairdo, which she has affectionately dubbed "the Squid."

"Just have a seat at the computer and we'll get you registered," she told him.

That guy was one of about a dozen attendees Connelly noticed throughout the day who looked suspiciously like the gender they were born with. It was possible, she says, that some were planning to transition and didn't want to wind up in a closed-minded employment situation. But it seemed likely that at least a few were not transgender, and were merely hoping to cherry-pick job opportunities. "It's a sign of the times," Connelly says, adding that it didn't bother her.

The event's organizer, the Transgender Economic Empowerment Initiative (TEEI), says that although the fair is marketed to transgender folks, all jobseekers are welcome.

"That doesn't seem quite right," says Lauren Graham, referring to the nontransgender interlopers who attended the fair. Graham, who has been looking for a job in health care for months, says she's been discriminated against in recent interviews. It often comes in the form of a look or body language that seems to suggest, "No way am I hiring someone like you."

Another job fair attendee, Charlene Hawk, said she has actually transitioned twice, because the first time she did, she lost her job in Virginia and couldn't find a new one. To get hired, she had to return to being a man. The second time she transitioned, she decided to move to San Francisco.

Those kinds of challenges are the reason that TEEI exists. Graham points out that there are plenty of job fairs out there for people who aren't transgender: "This one should have been respected for what it was," she says. "I saw some people that definitely weren't on my gaydar."

Pentagon: No Plans To End Military Gay Ban

a brief excerpt from the article, found on Gay News Blog:

Pentagon Spokesman Geoff Morrell told reporters Tuesday that repeal was not being actively pursued.

The ban, known as “don’t ask, don’t tell,” prescribes discharge from the military for gay and lesbian service members who do not remain closeted or celibate.

This is one of those intersections between my two communities–Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. We share the irony and ignominy of systematic second-class treatment even as we serve others, straight and queer alike.

I am not military and never will be–medically unfit–but I have tons of friends that are in and/or work for the military. One friend in particular is counting down the days til she gets retired from active service, because then she can stop dressing for her genes and start dressing like herself.

Of course she’ll still have to be careful–her job when she’s not on active duty is to make and modify machinery that requires an impressive Security Clearance. I asked her the other day if she’ll be able to be herself full time post retirement. She told me that dressing as herself would cost her the Clearance because according to the higher ups, she could be ‘blackmailed’ with her identity.

This seems to me all the more reason to repeal DADT–after all, if there are no secrets, nothing to blackmail with! This is why I live Out. I have plans to develop a para-political career, publish books, and possibly counsel professionally within my community or go to seminary. I have NO interest in giving anyone permission to start a Tranny Panic! to try to discredit me or give me bad press.
